Austin Celebrates Legal Gay & Lesbian Weddings in Travis County June 26, 2015

Bob Kinney Words & Photos

Photographing the crowd of smiles at the Travis County Clerk’s Office in Austin Friday afternoon June 26 just hours after the US Supreme Court issued its 5-4 ruling to make gay marriage available to all in our country is a high point in my life.

Experiencing women and men couples leaving the office – their marriage certificate in hand – before heading downtown to be married in the Travis County Courthouse brought Tears of Joy to me.

Several couples reportedly were waiting at the Clerk’s Office Friday morning anticipating the Supreme Court’s ruling.

Many folks were waiting outside the Travis County complex to share their love with cheers, flowers, beads and champagne bottles.

The afternoon brought back smiles to me when I photographed the Episcopal Church’s first Gay Wedding (aka “The Witnessing and Blessing of a Lifelong Covenant”) at St. David’s Church in downtown Austin on February 23. 2013. https://bobkinney.wordpress.com/2013/03/26/first-episcopal-church-gay-wedding-aka-witnessing-blessing-of-a-lifelong-covenant-in-state-of-texas/

The Texas Tribune reports that 250 marriage licenses were issued in Travis County June 26. Licenses issued June 25 totaled 17.
